Cotton gin trash comprises of leaf matter, bark, soils and other matter that has been collected during cotton harvest and is removed from the cotton lint during the ginning process.

During the 1995/96 and 1997/98 cotton-growing seasons there was an inverse relationship between the population densities of dominant benthic macroinvertebrates and concentrations of endosulfan in the Namoi River.

The aim of the project was to test the feasibility of using DNA probes to enumerate microorganisms involved in the degradation .of herbicides in soil.
