On the 6th and 7th of June 2001 a workshop was held at the
Riverglenn conference centre to discuss the feasibility of using short term
weather forecasting in the scheduling of irrigation. Groups that attended
included government bodies, industry representatives and consulting
firms.
The aims of the workshop were:
-
To provide an overview to current and future capabilities of
climate models to provide information to irrigators and on-farm management
decisions.
-
To provide an update to RWUE & NPIRD "proof of concept"
modelling project.
-
To provide a pragmatic evaluation of the infrastructure
limitations to using short term weather forecasts.
-
To provide a strategic work program to evaluate this approach.
